Viola Procovio was born in 1976 of an Italian-German father and a Japanese mother. She grow up in a multicultural environment where she had the chance to experience both worlds.
After studying languages and business (BA), she decided to focus her career where her real passion belonged. In 2002 she enrolled at the London College of Printing for a post-graduate degree in Photojournalism.
Her works currently focus on exploring those sides of Japanese culture which are frequently hidden to the western world.
The photos were taken in Tzukiji (the Tokyo fish market) at dawn. The photographer only used ambient light to capture the atmosphere and emphasise the beauty of the fish. Then modern technology helped to isolate the artist's visions. The images are presented on a pigment coated archival heavyweight watercolour paper.
The images are not covered by a protective film thus preserving the unique texture given by this process
